Helga so close
Three weeks ago Helga Margrét Þorsteinsdóttir the Icelandic supertalent in heptathlon broke her Icelandic record in Tallinn, Estonia and got 4.298 points. This weekend in Apeldoorn, Holland she was so close to break it again and got 4.292 points.
Helga started out with 8.97 in the 60m hurdles that were better than her 9.03 that she had in Tallinn but her PR here is 8.69 so still far away from that.
In the second event that was the high jump Helga jumped a new PR 1.78 comparably to her 1.74 she had in Tallinn. After two events Helga was ahead 62 points in relation to her series she had when breaking the record.
In the third event the shot put Helga put the shot 14.41 and lost 22 points from Tallinn where she had 14.74 but her PR is 15.01. Still this result in the shot was fine.
In the fourth event the long jump nothing worked and Helga only got 5.47 comparing to 5.59 three weeks ago and her PR is 5.92 but still after this event Helga was 5 points ahead in relation to the record.
In the 800m Helga ran 2:13.72 that is great but she started out to slow and ended up being just a second or so from the record at the end but her best here is 2:12.85 and she had 2:12.97 in the Tallinn camp.
This heptathlon was a good experience for Helga and she had again three great events in the high jump, shot put and 800m but the hurdles and long jump was not good enough. But with more speed it will come and then she could actually do between 4.400-4.500 points totally that would get her on the top 10 list in the world only 20 years old. Now she is in the 19th place on the list.
